This highlights to me the vital importance of founding a commons-based standards body that will truly operate through consensus-oriented (consent, etc.) governance. The point about consensus is not about the technical details of how many are allowed to stand aside or block, but about the overall intent, which is to include the views and wisdom of as many parties as possible, to make the best decisions in the best common interest.
W3C has clearly violated that trust, and we should be thinking of ways of building effective alternatives.
