Obviously it helps if self-interest models are responsive to common needs, but they would have no means of establishing what the need of the commons is except by social agreement, and so not reliable at all.

The real commons-based economic society, then, seems to need a foundation of collaborative institutions to give the competitive ones a positive rather than negative role.

Helene Finidori and I have several proposals for just that mix in commons-based economic model.
