The New Digital Economy and Sustainable Urbanism

A contribution by Felipe Velasquez Palacio, creator of lapapaya.org:

The worldwide social crisis has shown the weaknesses of a system that must be replaced with new initiatives and projects before trying to attack it. The proposal is based on trying to reunite the pieces of a fragmented society, before making deeper the wound, and via aggravating the basic greater problem, that is the abuse in the operation of the resources.

In this way, our proposal with the new economy and technology projects tries to create a community of people that increases the value of these projects and ideas that generates a major social and environmental impact. Not all the commercial actions in the world generate the same social and environmental impact. By the same way not all the people in the world, could make the right decisions for the good government of the cities, and the state by a sustainable way.

The money as we understand it in this right moment generates a lot of damages in the environment, because it was created for other conditions and other paradigms. The flights today make a lot of displacements that are not necessary, but the economical interests generate huge environmental damages; a lot of food companies prefer to throw their food instead of donating it to feed hungry people, because by donating the food, it would lower the value of their products. Big unsustainable companies could not be the reference of a system that need the good people in the right positions to generate innovation, sustainability and good relations between the different parts of the globe.

Our point of view of the solutions of the problematic right now, is the creation of new cognitive process that could make the people see the mistakes, and fix them with the solutions that have been proven to be right throughout the history. This is from the union between the academic world and the entrepreneurship.

Our concrete proposal is to dedicate some time and resources to investigate the technological tools and methodological processes, that could help the people to generate new cognitive processes of thinking with a focus in this two issues:

* In the social way, we have a proposition in the new digital economy.

* In the environmental issue, we would like to develop sustainable urbanism projects that could help reduce time of displacement and energetic consumption.

In the new digital economy, the initial investment would be to understand particularly the cognitive process or steps of development in the Piaget researches, conducted by Ken Wilber and Jurgen Habermas. The objective is to measure the level of consciousness of the users-citizens of our technology; this could help us to assign better positions to these actions that could help the greater amount of people as well as the environment.

Sustainable Development and Social Networks.

The last evolution of the social networks and the Internet, have created new cognitive abilities in the users-citizens. Understanding the particularity and the nature of these new abilities can allow us to understand the way the people are having a new relation with the territory and the nature. These relations are changing and will continue evolving, making new models of urbanism, sustainability and territory occupations.

A clear example of the change of industrial paradigm for a digital paradigm and the territory relations is easy to see in the sense that right now it is not necessary to live in the cities, to develop different kind of new works such as: web development, graphic design, video animations, multimedia, agriculture, online courses, music, and innovation among others.

A new sustainable development relationship between the population and the territory let us think in the neighborhoods of people with same interests organized by internet, the same eco-villages or semi sustainable towns with a relation with other networks of towns.

The research and the proposals in this topic would be focused in the development of informatics’ applications that could create spaces where the people would not generate new displacements, neither big energetic investments to realize the day per day work.
