There is very much a connection, as this essay shows. What this essay doesn’t do is explain the nature of that connection. The connection proposed here is tied by the author to a temporal psychology, i.e. delayed-gratification vs. immediate satisfaction. This is very similar to the distinction drawn by Phillip Zimbrano in his widely-viewed Ted talk, between future-oriented and present-oriented societies. But in both cases I would argue these are mere symptoms not causes. But certainly this essay gives a sample of some of the many connections between oral and digital cultures.
