The confusion some show over my comment on Bitcoin being “asset-like” makes me realise there is a real need for “monetary literacy” whereby people understand the different forms of currency. The best books on this I find are by Stephen Zarlenga and Thomas Greco and David Graeber. They show how the original currency and that most enabling of peaceful self determination, are credit currencies, where we each have the opportunitity to issue credit to each other, and so the currency is merely a means of exchanging things of real wealth, not a “thing” we delude ourselves has an intrinsic value similar to its ability to command goods and services. Sadly no one wants to read anymore… too busy tweeting?
