Podemos is not a traditional political party, any more than is Syriza in Greece.

It acts as a political party at national and regional level.

What has happened in Madrid, Barcelona and other cities, is activists have come together under a common banner, and seized control of their Town Halls. They are opposed to political parties.

For the very simple reason, political parties act for themselves, not the community.

We see the same in Frome in Somerset. A group of people came together under a banner and seized control of the local Town Hall. They are not a political party, but for the purpose of the ballot paper, have to appear as one, so identified.
