Mapping the Commons in Rio de Janeiro – Event from 17 to 26 October

Bernardo Gutierrez from Brazil writes:

I write to inform you that the project ‘Mapping the commons’ is going to happen in Rio de Janeiro, in October, and we are looking for partnership. As most of you know, Mapping the commons is a project developed by Pablo de Soto (Hackitecktura). He developed this theoretical and practical workshop around urban commons in Athens and Istambul. You can see the results in

http://mappingthecommons.net/

Pablo, settled in this moment in Rio de Janeiro, was planning to do this workshop – that produces live maps, short documentary cuts, empowerment – during 2014. But the huge protests that still shake Rio de Janeiro made up his mind. It was urgent to do it now, because we still live in a ‘David Harvey´s rebel city’. The privatization of the commons has been one of the items of this fantastic and strange networked revolution we are living in Brazil.

Pablo invited me to join the project. And now we have the Mapping the Commons planned for 17th-26th of October. We have a little support of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) and MediaLab Prado Madrid. We are looking for partners, resources, communication alliances…

Pablo can tell you what we need.

It would be fantastic to find any kind of collaboration. Rio – and the world – lives a quite crucial moment of its history.
