LittleShoot – Open Source P2P File Sharing

You can now publish any file you would like to share on LittleShoot. The application, which works on both Windows and Mac, is the brainchild of Adam Fisk, former lead developer at LimeWire and a team of volunteers. LittleShoot is open source and it works through whatever browser you are using.

The program recently came out of closed beta with a public release candidate – version 0.5 – which makes any files you wish to share available to other users of the program.

You can download the program here.

Files published on LittleShoot’s network are located on the user’s computer, but there is a centralized index on the LittleShoot site, which makes for faster searches. Lots of development work still going on, but publishing is definitely easier than it is with BitTorrent.

Thanks Sepp! I actually just put up a quick demo of how other sites can integrate the LittleShoot platform at:

The video that gets downloaded is downloaded via p2p from LitttleShoot, but streamed through Flash. The cool part is it’s just a bit of additional JavaScript on a page — again much simpler than BitTorrent. LittleShoot’s tracking is also just better because it tracks all online sources instead of just guessing, and you don’t need to run the tracker yourself!

    All the Best,
    -Adam
