This brings to mind an open, free service for mediating just such exchanges … stuff that’s happening outside of the economy we know today. It is starting with selling things you no longer need – for a currency no country has issued, called the “swap” – and doing so directly from one private person to another.

The program was written by students at Lausanne university in Switzerland and is being made available as a free world-wide service, ready-to-go in six languages. Check it out at
