Particular agents with self-conscious class interests, rather, used these things as talking points. It wasn’t because “people” in general, or “society,” just “had their heads in a bad place.” The commons were destroyed by robbery. I strongly suspect that the majority of the rural population with common rights didn’t “think” any of these things at all.
