How well is the P2P Foundation doing online?

By the time you read this, our wiki home page should have reached 333,333 visitors and on the 6th of October, as I write this, “There have been a total of 4,534,546 page views”.

But there is better news still.

Steve Rubel writes that “After thinking about this a lot I have reached the conclusion that Google Page Rank is the ultimate way to measure online influence. Page Rank is channel agnostic and takes the entire online ecosystem into account. It judges you based on links from all kinds of sources, not just people who live in the same fish tank. In other words, it goes beyond people who hang out on Twitter who love people who Tweet or bloggers who link to other bloggers, etc. It eschews the echo chamber

PageRank takes time to earn. There are no shortcuts. Google is democratic and rewards professionals and amateurs equally if they do their job well. Create high quality content that earns links from other quality sources and, over time, your Google Page Rank grows as does your influence and responsibility.”

His own hyper-influential blog has a rank of 7.

This prompted me to try a Google Page ranking application.

The result is that our wiki has a PR of 5 and our blog of 6.

What does it mean. Our resident SEO expert Jeff Petry replied:

“PR3 is average for normal basic small sites. PR4 is quite good and indicated a legitimate, established website.

PR5 is for bigger sites that are extremely well-established, connected, and been around a while. Very good.

PR6 is getting into the authority level. I’ve never had a client in 10 years with a PR this high (unless I count you!). Hard-earned, valuable, enviable.”

Needless to say, I’m happy that the hard work is generating attention.
