I heard part of the US Senate’s hearing of Bernanke and Paulson over the requested 700 billion salvage package yesterday, and it seems that several of the lawmakers are starting to think that something is not quite right in the way the Fed and the Treasury have handled the economy so far. So there seems to be some potential for change in the way of re-thinking the basics of the monetary and economic system, although I doubt that anything useful will come out of the learned minds of those lawmakers.

Perhaps it will be up to us – as Douglas Rushkoff says – to make a new start with a bottom-up real economy.
