New media led to the notion of private property in the 16/17 century. New new media can free us from the golden chains of capitalism if we make the right choices.

Eventually, this will encompass also a different financial economy, where the credit commons can no longer be monopolized by the banks. Means of payment different from those imposed by the state will spring up and revive (local) production and commerce, providing a viable alternative to what today is called “the market”.

We will also develop a different way of governing ourselves. In the digital republic the word democracy – perhaps for the first time in history – will actually come to mean a real world social system of governing our own affairs, rather than being a thin excuse for “government” of the weak by the powerful.
