Here in Australia they’ve just started showing the TV series New Worlds – also set in the early days of capitalism (17th century, in King Charles 2nd’s reign in England after the monarchy’s restoration post Cromwell and the english revolution, and Boston at the same time).

While a bit lightweight and “soapy”, it does actually spend some time on the idea that as Feudalism started to fall apart and the world changed rapidly, Capitalism certainly wasn’t seen as the inevitable way forward, and people felt the loss of the commons as it was re-purposed for export and commodities, and some resisted. (Including the Indians who were being fairly ruthlessly disposessed in the US even if nominally ‘compensated’ for their prime land on the East coast).
