Your article shows the progress that has been made by the commons “movement” in the last decade in particular both with liveable practices in different fields and concrete proposals at the institutional level.

Back in the 60’s and 70’s many people criticised development from different ideological and theoretical perspectives. In the area of information/communication this criticism emphasised Access AND Participation. Remember the battle of the New world information order (NWICO) which resulted in the crisis of UNESCO after the US defection in 1983. Considering information as a right meant not only access and participation but also horizontal communication with an emphasis on the “process” instead of the final”product”. That’s why later on we promoted the Right to Communicate which was at the center of the debate at the UN Summit on information in Geneva/Tunis 2003-2005. Not surprinsigly it was at this same summit that we launched ” Word Matters” a multicultural perspective on the information society At the same time, we also organized a seminar on informational commons and intellectual property in the context of development. Both were initiated and co-organized by VECAM.
