I can relate to your experience of initial excitement and eventual concern and disappointment. A famous CR recently told me that my methodological decisions made certain ontological presuppositions which were inconsistent with my personal ontological convictions. My response: so? I think that ontology should be instrumental. Why not?! We have little way of knowing which positions are right and wrong anyway…
