One of our heros, the tireless Commons advocate David Bollier, with whom we’ve dialogued on occasion (see here and here), has recently published a report for the Aspen Institute:
When Push Turns To Pull:Â The Technology-Enabled Society
August 2-5, 2005. Aspen Meadows Conference Center, Aspen Colorado
“When Push Turns to Pull: The Technology-Enabled Society” focused on how advances in information and communications technologies have resulted in a movement from the push approach to a new “pullâ€? economy. That is, communications and activities have moved from a hierarchical center-out structure to a network-based decentralized architecture where the focus is on the end user rather than the producer. Roundtable participants discussed key components, descriptors, and drivers of change of this “pullâ€? model, and its profound impact on various aspects our lives, including commerce, education, governance, and community life. The 2005 Roundtable included 28 distinguished leaders from the fields of government, business, finance, academia and media. The 2005 convening committee, comprised of John Seely Brown, Cassatt CEO Bill Coleman, Accenture’s John Kunzweiler, James Manyika of McKinsey, and roundtable co-founder Jerry Murdock.”
