Here in Manchester a broad coalition of progressive organisations from the public, private and civil society sectors are developing the idea of a “Social Innovation Platform”.
The idea is to use digital technology to recognise people’s contribution to community, using a time-based unit of measurement and “currency”. It would bring people together to do activities that brought social and or environmental benefit.
We are moving towards proof-of-concept pilot projects in two north Manchester communities.
I can provide you or your readers with further information if they wish but the key elements are:
1. A peer-to-peer marketplace where buyers and sellers would come
together
2. A social network where cooperative members can choose to be visible and
to interact
3. A means of exchange using “cooperative loyalty points”
4. A measure of value based on time units
So every member would have their own profile online as in a social network, but also access to the marketplace. Members could be individuals, organisations or brands.
Our work is aimed at developing a shared services enabling platform that serves a multi-stakeholder co-operative organisation.
Please get in touch if you’d like to know more.
