Your name is familiar to me, but I don’t recall if we have crossed paths before…

With regard to your vision above, I have been building a specific solution to this for the last 10 years: its called CubeSpawn and it is a digital template driven, Form Factor based, Modular Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) if widely adopted, it could provide a workable solution to implementing a localized, distributed manufacturing system, while local intelligence evolves it into a better solution. its currently built to benchtop specifications, but plans to scale it both up and down in size are well established.
