I have to agree with you about Kamenetz, if indeed she stretches the edupunk analogy too far. Institutions and classrooms and teachers will always be needed to educate the next generation. But I believe edupunk began as a reaction to a certain proprietary LMS that has huge market share in universities. Most students don’t enjoy that experience. Having tried many different Learning Management Systems in the past five years or so, I cannot think of one that is more satisfying for students than the experience of being face to face in the classroom with a good teacher and stimulating peers. If one is going to use computers as a teaching resource, there has got to be a better way to do it than to offer the online textbook model of an LMS, and that, I believe is what edupunk is all about, not a bunch of unemployed teachers attempting to relate online with a bunch of indigent learners.
