One of the aspects covered by the recently passed Oekonux conference (27-29 March, 2009 in Manchester, UK), was the Women’s Contribution to Free Software Development. Speaker Christina Haralanova presented in a summary the recent research made in Montreal area, Canada on women active in software production. A 15% margin of female participation was noted in the online questionnaire, which contrasts with the commonly quoted 1% (Flosspols 2002, 2006). What contributions make women to free and open source community? How can their involvement become more visible and valuable?

Slides from the presentation, as well as summary transcript of the discussion could be found on Christina’s blog: www.ludost.org/content/womens-contribution-foss-development-discussion-and-slides
