Excellent post!

I would add a point that has been emphasized by others and is that initial outlays costs are drastically diminished because a large pool of knowledge is (will be) available. Therefore, projects that in the IP framework are inviable for small groups turn suddenly viable, as the investment / burden in getting knowledge and paying for the needed licenses fade way. What the small groups have to provide for making a viable business turns commensurate with their capacity and a huge burst of productivity is unleashed. To this we must add the possibility of networking as you noted.

An interesting consequence of the above is that production can be centered in small groups, small groups can become teams and teams are the most efficient way known for organizing human production
