“The Times Are Urgent; Let’s Slow Down” an Open Letter

“The system is not the cause of our problems, it is a consequence of our separation from each other, a consequence of our complicity with our own destruction. In other worlds, we are the system we fight against” …..and later…..”If we beat the system at it’s own game, we’ve lost”

“Civic society from all over the World congregated in Johannesburg for the first big Global Citizenship Movement gathering. Instead of another ‘Declaration”, the group came up with the “Johannesburg Compass – questions and orientation”. This is worded to inspire widespread participation and conversation about new possibilities. How deep do we have to go, in order to see the changes we’d like to see in the world? What will it take for us to turn towards each other?

Marta Benavides (GCAP Global, El Salvador) Bayo Akomolefe (keynote, Nigeria) in deliberation with some of us, wrote this open letter in the days just after the event.”
