Is P2P left or right (part II)?
In a former post Michel Bauwens had claimed that P2P is an expression of the left that implies a social formation to produce and govern, where both liberty and equality are integrated and reinforce each other, as well as that induces innovative alliances to take place.
In a society, where P2P processes are the dominant modes of civilization, the market and the state are transformed into servants of the multitudes, or -to put it in Laser Theory‘s terms- the “excited groups of people in motion”. The massive participation, based on equipotentiality and freedom to engage and reform, lead to the participatory age where aggressive authority scatters to the four winds and self-determination of singularities shape the world. There is a common element within all the fore mentioned characteristics of P2P ethos, and that is “distribution”. Hence, I argue that P2P movement does not stem from a specific sociopolitical field, dogma or ideology; it does not label or characterise as it is not exclusive; it is not a “closed code” mode of production, governance and property as it is an evolution in process.
Overall, in my opinion it is neither “left”, nor “right” as it penetrates both.
P2P is just “distributed”.
