As more and more details become available, I don’t think Agassi’s scheme is for free. As mentioned in this blog, as such I find this a really interesting idea, but I have some (practical) reflections though.

The plug-in hybrid is the only justifiable technology providing electric propulsion – Toyota knows this, GM knows this, everybody involved with electric propulsion knows this. Everybody except Agassi, apparently. Cars don’t have to be all-electric in order to meet over 90% of the goals of an EV fleet – 40 miles or more of battery powered range is all that’s required – and the rest can be done using biofuels, which are SUPERIOR to electricity as a means of reducing carbon emissions. will have moved heaven and Earth, overcharged drivers enormously (no pun), and will have implemented the worst solution.
