However, for me, it is important to read it from society center perspective (periphery perspective), I mean that there are areas/regions which state intentionally donot want to govern. Like Tribal areas of Pakistan bordering Afghanistan, may be it is possible that the State by will/intentionally keep these areas beyond its control, due to many reasons. These Pakistani northern tribal areas is one of the area, we can say belong to Zomia. So I think while studying the Zomia, James Scot missed the perspective of State will that state intentionally, some time donot want to bring an area under its control for various reasons.

The term is coined by Dutch social scientist William Van Schendel after his field work in India’s north-east. he actually borrow the term from the Mizo (some called themselves Zomi, Chin, Zo, Zhou etc) tribal of North East India. Since, i belong to this tribal group and i’m sure zomia is not a Mizo/Zomi term at all. Rather a corrupt form of Mizo/Zomi…to be precise, European mispronunciation of the Mizo language..
