Al Jazeera and Jerome Roos expose the corporate media’s myth-making on Greece

We’re a bit late with this, but the Al Jazeera documentary is still worth watching.

Jerome Roos, who appears in the program, explains why this is a must see:

“Al Jazeera is without a doubt the best source of news we have on the ongoing economic and political crisis in Europe.

With its overwhelming experience on the Arab Revolutions, the Qatar-based news station honestly appears to be the only mainstream media outlet capable of grasping the historic significance of the mass protests that have recently burst out across Southern Europe.

This excellent Listening Post episode explores the lies, falsehoods and prejudices about the Greek people that have been peddled by the international media and that have been so immensely successful in shaping Europe’s disastrous policy response to the crisis.

Themes, in other words, that we have been writing about extensively ever since last year, when this blog was founded with a first post about the Greek tragedy. At that point, no one really seemed to care much about the fate of the Greek people. It’s very inspiring to see that now, our voices are finally being heard.

I come in for a brief 30-second word around 8m40s, but please do not skip to that point — make sure to watch this show from beginning to end. It will dispel the vast majority of myths that have been circulating around the international press for much too long.

Massive respect to Al Jazeera for being our only mainstream media ally in this global struggle for real democracy. After yesterday’s sham appearance on an ideologically-charged BBC World program, I am immensely grateful to Al Jazeera for its efforts to provide the world with critical, insightful and factual reporting.”
